City of Westminster College

RIBA Prize winner!

RIBA 2011 award winning Schmidt Hammer Lassen Higher Education and Further Education campus for the City of Westminster School in Paddington.

The College’s exceptional new campus in central London provides state-of-the-art facilities for students as well as a superb amenity for the local community.

Designed to be open, connected, flexible and inspiring, it has a simple geometric form that rotates around a dynamic, spiralling inner atrium.

Teaching facilities include specialist workshops, laboratories and studios, as well as classrooms, with flexible study areas in and around the atrium. In addition, there is a theater, café and other public areas.

The building takes full advantage of adjoining urban green spaces. Cantilevered decks to the south create solar shading while external green roofs and terracing form an integral part of the design. The campus is sustainable and energy efficient, with low life cycle costs and maintenance liabilities
